Bath-bound

With internet problems last night I was keen to publish yesterday's blog before it got deleted again!

What I did forget to mention was that during the day we heard that lock 11 of the Widcombe Flight, the other side of Bath was closed and expected to be so for the next 2 weeks.
With this in mind we stopped in Newbridge for diesel and water and further enquiry seemed to improve the situation to 1 week's delay.

On the positive side I had always meant to spend some time exploring Bath and may even get a chance to ring the bells at Bath Abbey :-))

Moorings in Bath were few and the banks not very accessible but we did find some delightful moorings conveniently situated for the city centre (even with grass for Tara to run on, as she soon showed that she was not too keen on city life)

So resigned to a long stay in Bath we meandered through its streets on the Friday and took in most of the sights. Full of tourists!
I didn't actually take any photos of the city expecting to have several days to choose for the opportunity.

The lock gates were due for repair at sometime during the year but their condition had deteriorated to the point where they were no longer functional. However we did hear from The Canal and River Trust (The Trust) during the day that remedial work had been carried out and were now open again!!
So plans were then made to move off early in the morning.

The bridge with the scaffolding is Victoria Bridge an important example of a cable-stayed bridge which initially carried horses and carts but later carried cyclists and pedestrians until its closure on safety grounds in 2011.
Also known as a taper suspension bridge and is now under repair

Before setting off we did all go for a lovely walk to the Royal Crescent and Botanical Gardens

We were moored next to a boat called Joanne in Bath and I went through the Widcombe Flight out of Bath with them. John also found some help too - with a holiday canalboat which was being relocated by staff
